A case of monkeypox has been detected for the first time in Saxony.
The city administration announced on Friday that a person from Dresden had been infected with monkeypox.
Dresden – There is also a suspicion that two other people from Dresden are also infected with the virus.
They showed the typical symptoms and had contact with people who had been proven to be infected outside of the state capital.
The lab results are still pending.
Those affected have isolated themselves, so it is currently assumed that the chain of infection has been broken.
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), as of Friday, 338 cases from a total of 11 federal states were recorded nationwide.
The Saxon case would now be added.
Monkeypox is a rare viral disease that can be transmitted from animals to humans.
Human-to-human transmission is rare, but possible with very close contact.
According to health authorities, the virus usually causes only mild symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain and skin rash.
The time from contact to the onset of the disease is between 7 and 21 days.
