With also 19 departments in yellow vigilance (be careful), only five departments in the PACA region and the two departments of Corsica remain in green, while temperatures reached or exceeded 40°C on Friday, particularly in Occitania.
Among the temperatures above 40°C, Météo-France recorded 41.6°C in Villevieille (Gard), 41.4°C in Prades (Hérault), 40.6°C in Lézignan (Aude), 40.5°C in C in Saint-Jean-du-Gard (Gard).
These very high temperatures should reach their "
climax
" on Saturday, with values around 40°C also in Ile-de-France, but the arrival of thunderstorms will put these very high temperatures, indicates
La Chaîne Météo*
.
Temperatures could drop by 10 to 15°C in 24 hours in the north-west of the country, due to these storms but also to the lifting of a wind north of the Loire.
A depression called a “cold drop”
The heat covering France this weekend is held in place by a depression called a "
cold drop
", located off Portugal, according to
La Chaîne Météo*
.
The heat will evolve according to the movements of this cold drop.
The departments in red vigilance are mainly located along the Atlantic coast and in the South-West.
This is the fourth time - and the earliest in the season - that heatwave red vigilance has been used since the system was put in place after the lessons learned from the historic heatwave of 2003. Heatwave red vigilance, the highest level of the "national heat wave plan"
, corresponds both to an exceptional meteorological event and to a health alert justifying
"maximum mobilization".
