As the heat wave hits the whole country, temperatures could reach 40°C in Paris according to Météo France.

A heat that would set a new record.

The mercury has never climbed so high in June since the start of recordings in the capital.

The highest temperature ever recorded in Paris was in 1947 in Montsouris.

At the time, the thermometer indicated 37.6°C, a value to be taken with caution because the recording was not made under the conditions available in 2022. It is possible that the device overheated in its shelter, pushing the measures upwards.

This forecast, relayed on Twitter by François Jobard, meteorologist at Météo France, would therefore mark a record.

If it is not certain that Paris will reach 40°C, “here we are looking for what would allow us to avoid reaching 40°C in the capital on June 18”, specifies the scientist, remains that 'it is very likely that the record will fall.

note that even a 38°C in Paris would exceed the old monthly record of June 26, 1947 tomorrow.

Record at 37.6°C which had been obtained under different measurement conditions, which we know were conducive to probable overheating (former shelter) at the time.

“Even a 38°C in Paris would exceed the old monthly record of June 26, 1947 tomorrow,” concludes François Jobard.

Paris is experiencing, like the rest of France, an unprecedented heat wave for the period.

12 departments will go into red vigilance at 2 p.m.

It is only the fourth time in France that such an alert level has been exceeded.

In total, 18 million people are affected, schoolchildren and college students being able to stay at home in the departments on red alert although their reception is assured in the establishments.

“It is the earliest heat wave ever recorded in France” since 1947, indicates Matthieu Sorel, climatologist at Météo France, seeing it as a “marker of climate change”.

Traveling to Vienna, the Minister of Health Brigitte Bourguignon indicated that she expected these phenomena to multiply in the coming years.
