Indian police fired live ammunition on Friday to disperse a crowd of demonstrators who had set fire to trains to protest against a plan to recruit young men into the army.

These shots left at least one injured, according to an AFP photographer in Secunderabad (South).
Hundreds of people had invaded the tracks, blocking the trains and setting fire to at least four trains.
Local police were not immediately available.
Protests have erupted in several cities across India since police fired tear gas on Thursday at protesters in eastern Bihar state who were setting trains on fire and attempting to storm government buildings, to protest against an army recruitment plan.

The Indian government announced this week a temporary recruitment plan aimed at incorporating young adults into the army for four years, without the advantages previously granted to members of the professional army.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has touted the plan as a way to modernize India's armed forces with young recruits and tackle unemployment.
