The World Health Organization has reported more than 2,103 cases of monkeypox in 42 countries around the world where this virus is not endemic.

In Latin America, cases have been reported in at least 5 countries, in addition to several cases in the United States and Canada.

Chili

Chile confirmed the first case of monkeypox in the country, the Ministry of Health reported in a statement on June 17.

According to the entity, it is a young adult with a history of travel to Europe who presented symptoms related to the disease.

The statement adds that the patient is in good health and that the surveillance protocols established by the Minsa were applied.

Venezuela

The Ministry of Health of this country reported on July 12 its first suspected case of monkeypox.

The patient entered Venezuelan territory from Madrid, Spain, a country where "he had contact with two infected people in the city of Barcelona," the Ministry of Health reported in a statement in which it clarified that the patient "was immediately isolated." and that he is in "stable health conditions".

The Ministry added that it is already working to "establish an epidemiological fence."

Brazil

On June 9, Brazil confirmed its first case of monkeypox in a 41-year-old man who had traveled to Spain and Portugal several times and was admitted to a Sao Paulo hospital.

Mexico

A case of monkeypox was reported in Mexico in a 50-year-old man residing in New York, as announced by the Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, on May 28.

The man was treated in Mexico City and his general health status was stable.

Mexico published an epidemiological alert that alerted hospitals and clinics at all levels of care to identify suspected cases of monkeypox.

Argentina

Argentina has two cases of monkeypox, according to the most recent WHO report.
