Fuel prices are still high despite the tank discount.

The taxpayers' association is therefore now demanding an early end to the measure in order to save taxpayers' money.

Berlin – The tank discount has now been in effect for half a month.

But if you want to fill up your car, you still have to dig deep into your pocket.

Gasoline and diesel prices are still at record highs - leading to a lot of criticism.

The President of the Taxpayers' Association, Reiner Holznagel, has now spoken out in favor of an early end to the tank discount.

"In the end, the tank discount generates frustration with politics and the feeling of powerlessness when it comes to rising inflation," Holznagel told the

Augsburger Allgemeine

.

"This is fatal."

Tank discount: Three months would cost at least three billion euros

The design flaw of the tank discount is "difficult to make up for," Holznagel told the newspaper.

"That's why the federal government has to significantly shorten the period of the tank discount." He spoke out in favor of "a reduction from three to one month".

This saves a lot of money.

Holznagel calculated: "If you let the tank discount run for three months, it would cost the state 3.0 to 3.2 billion euros."

Politics seems powerless.

The tank discount does not go down well and the accusations against the mineral oil companies are getting louder.

The Cartel Office looks closely at fuel prices, but has dampened expectations of a change.

"We are doing our utmost to clarify and bring transparency to the pricing of the mineral oil companies," said President Andreas Mundt.

"But neither the Federal Cartel Office nor any other authority in Germany can lower prices at the push of a button." High prices and the generation of high profits are not prohibited.

Taxpayers' Association: President encourages discussion about the nine-euro ticket

The association president also suggested a discussion about the premature end of the nine-euro ticket after one month: "In my opinion, the nine-euro ticket is just a taster course for local public transport," he said.

But the task of the state is to provide financial support to people who have to commute to get to work and earn an income.

This order from the state does not cover the nine-euro ticket.

The only measure to relieve people who are forced to commute is "the distance allowance, whether by car, train or bicycle," said Holznagel.
