Can he sleep with only one diaper? Should I wake him up to give him water? Doctor Laure Abensur's advice to bring a little freshness to your child and improve his nights... and yours.

It is as hot inside as it is outside.

He tossed and turned in his bed, got angry and couldn't fall asleep.

Some summer days, especially those of this week, are difficult for toddlers to bear, and the beginnings of the night are sometimes chaotic.

To help babies fall asleep, their body temperature must be lowered.

But he is not able to regulate it alone.

Freshen up the room before bedtime

The temperature in the baby's room should ideally be 19 degrees.

Ideally of course, because it is impossible to obtain this temperature during the heat wave that we are experiencing this week.

During the summer heat, cool the room before bedtime.

Close shutters and windows in the morning as soon as the outside temperature begins to rise.

In the evening, if the air outside is more breathable, open the windows and ventilate.

Alternatively, place a bottle of ice water in front of a fan.

Avoid air conditioning and fans

We bless air conditioning.

However, it dries the air and the mucous membranes.

But babies need moist air to breathe properly.

In addition, air conditioning can clog their noses, while they hardly breathe through their mouths.

To humidify the air, dry the laundry in his room for example.

But avoid running a fan all night, even on low settings.

The child may catch cold and catch a cold.

Use a fogger

To lower your child's body temperature, use an atomizer and spray the water from a distance, preferably on his body rather than his head.

You can also slightly dampen a washcloth - without soaking it - and run it over her legs, arms and neck.

Don't put him to sleep in a diaper

If we tend to believe that he will have a better night if he only wears a diaper, it is better to make him sleep by putting on at least a short-sleeved bodysuit.

If he only has his diaper, he could be cold during the night.

Prefer cotton clothing, which allows air to pass through and absorbs perspiration.

In periods of extreme heat, remember to remove the sleeping bag.

Give him a cool bath

If a temperate shower refreshes us and helps us sleep on summer evenings, it is the same for babies.

To promote sleep, lower the temperature of the bath water by two degrees, or 35 degrees.

You can also exceptionally delay bedtime and take advantage of the extra time to ventilate your room.

Give milk at room temperature

If you are not breastfeeding, avoid heating the bottle of milk and give it to him instead at room temperature.

Thus, the temperature of his body will not increase.

After his six months, wake him up to make him drink

In the event of extreme heat and if the child is over six months old, you can wake him up at night to give him something to drink and avoid dehydration.

On the other hand, below six months, the baby does not have to drink any liquid other than milk.

If you give him water during the day, it should always be in very small quantities.

Otherwise, he will feel full and eat less.
