The colorful markings and paintings by students from the Starnberg Gymnasium arouse interest on the station square - the city's idea of using the closed areas for events and restaurants has made little progress so far.

In any case, the area will be livened up with "Starnberg Moves" on Sunday, June 26th.

Almost four weeks after the start of "See and the City" on Starnberg's Bahnhofplatz, little is happening there.

The acceptance of the project, which is intended to increase the quality of stay, is moderate.

But that is about to change: on Sunday, June 26, "Starnberg Moves" will take place there.

Starnberg

– The “See and the City” campaign on the station square in Starnberg has a mixed response.

Some find them good because there is more space for pedestrians and cyclists, others disastrous.

The Seniors' Union recently called for the action to be canceled with traffic and parking restrictions (we reported).

The city is not thinking about that, but it is struggling with acceptance problems.

The aim of the city administration and city council is to use "See and the City" to find out how the area between the city center and the lake promenade can be changed to give pedestrians and cyclists more space.

In addition, the roadway was narrowed, parking spaces were eliminated, sidewalks were widened - for common areas that the city actually wanted to use for other purposes, such as restaurants and events.

Only: This does not work as desired.

According to Deputy Mayor Angelika Kammerl, who is currently in charge of business in the town hall, the city had been turned down by innkeepers and companies with the request to use the now free space.

Lack of staff was often cited as the reason, says Kammerl.

However, the city wants to start new initiatives to use the areas.

It is a pity that little is happening in the area around the roundabout.

Even the food trucks, which the city hired on a daily basis, complained about few visitors;

one had already jumped off.

"Things aren't going smoothly," admits Kammerl, who also doesn't expect the situation to change quickly.

The complaints about the traffic management continue, but are limited to the Starnberg police.

Traffic officer Oliver Jauch does not know of any incidents or major problems.

The slowing down of traffic through the narrowing is successful, he says.

Most also adhered to the parking bans on the areas, but "not all".

That was already an issue in the city council's traffic committee, the city had increased parking surveillance there.

According to Kammerl, however, drivers will have to get used to fewer parking spaces over the long term, because some of the parking spaces at the Seearkaden will be eliminated for building law reasons - there is a parking space for the fire brigade there, which is anchored in the building permit but has not been created in recent decades, she says .

However, some dates for "See and the City" are fixed, such as "Starnberg Moves" on Sunday, June 26th.

"From 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., the sports clubs in Starnberg and the surrounding area will be offering a colorful program with sporting highlights from the wide range of offers in their departments at Kirchplatz, Wittelsbacherstraße and Bahnhofplatz," the city announced this week.

There are offers in table tennis, climbing and curling, among other things.

In addition to the clubs, Starnberg companies also presented themselves and provided information about their offers on the topics of health, fitness and wellness.

The physical well-being is taken care of thanks to the support of various clubs and initiatives.

The city library will be there with its "library of things".

The Bahnhofplatz between Bahnhofstrasse and Wittelsbacherstrasse and Wittelsbacherstrasse between Bahnhofplatz and Ludwigstrasse will be closed on June 26 from 8 a.m. to around 8 p.m.

This also affects bus lines, so the 964 does not stop at See station, but there are alternative stops (e.g. on the main road).

The stop at Wittelsbacherstraße will come back in front of the cinema for one day.
