The mother and her family are being investigated for the death of a 5-day-old baby girl who died of malnutrition or starvation after a home birth in Burgos, a small town of about 870 inhabitants in the province of Sassari.
The deputy prosecutor of Nuoro, Giorgio Bocciarelli, entered the 28-year-old mother of the child and her family members
, parents and sister, present in the house where the child's body was found
in the register of suspects .
The crime hypothesis at the moment is
abandonment of the incapable
.
All suspects will be formally summoned by the prosecutor in the coming days.
On Monday, however, the Public Prosecutor will appoint the Cagliari coroner Alberto Chighine for the
autopsy
.
The examination will be carried out in the forensic pathology institute of the Santissima Annunziata hospital in Sassari, where the body was transferred.
The results of the autopsy will be decisive in establishing the exact cause of the child's death and will be used by the investigators to assess the possible aggravation of the hypothesis of crime.
The body of the little girl, who had been born at home, was found by the Bono carabinieri, led by Captain Davide Masina, on Friday afternoon.
The soldiers arrived in the house together with the 118 after
the young woman's family had requested the help of the emergency services
.
From the elements collected by the investigators, there are no obvious external signs of beatings on the mother, but this track is not however excluded a priori.
However, investigations continue to focus on the initial hypothesis, namely that the newborn
died of malnutrition or starvation
.
