Queues at the security check and breakdowns at check-in – exceptional circumstances prevail at German airports.

Flying on summer vacation turns into roulette.

Berlin – How is that supposed to be in the summer holidays?

Due to a lack of staff, Lufthansa and its subsidiary Eurowings are already pulling the ripcord.

The airlines canceled more than a thousand flights in July from Frankfurt and Munich alone.

According to Lufthansa, the weekdays Friday, Saturday and Sunday are particularly affected by the cancellations.

Easyjet is said to have canceled 1,000 flights.

Is there now a threat of summer chaos with an announcement?

Is Germany threatening travel chaos at the airports for the summer holidays?

Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) does not expect the situation to ease at German airports any time soon.

"Short-term solutions would be extremely desirable, but are not very likely," said Wissing of the

with regard to the lack of staff at the airports and delays and cancellations of flights.

The situation in the European air traffic system is "an enormous challenge" for everyone.

The shortage of skilled workers is increasingly affecting people's everyday lives.

The CSU accuses the Minister of Transport of omissions.

Wissing "can't just duck away with a shrug of the shoulders and leave people alone with the traffic chaos that the traffic lights are partly to blame for," criticized the CSU traffic expert Ulrich Lange in the

.

If you are sitting on packed suitcases at the airport, you have to be prepared for a lot.

During the peak travel season, passengers must have a lot of patience.

At peak times there could be "waiting times in the terminals," warned a spokeswoman for the operator of Frankfurt Airport Fraport.

The German Travel Association also advised travelers in the summer months to arrive at the airport early and be prepared for long waiting times.

According to the FDP Minister of Transport, Volker Wissing, there is no relaxation in the airport chaos.

Chaotic conditions at KLM, Tui and Easyjet: thousands of passengers stranded

Thousands of Brits stranded abroad over Pentecost weekend due to canceled flights.

The Dutch airline KLM had simply abandoned thousands of passengers at various airports in Europe.

To prevent such scenarios, many airlines, such as Lufthansa, are thinning out their flight schedules.

There is a lack of staff everywhere.

According to the airport association ADV, around 20 percent of the positions at check-in, in security checks and in aircraft handling are vacant.

Vacationers and travel agencies have to pay for everything

"Two years of staff cuts are now taking their revenge," says Marija Linnhoff, chairwoman of the travel agency association VUSR in the

BamS

.

"So close to the summer season, the worst has to be expected." And in addition to holidaymakers, travel agencies should now pay for it with countless hours of unpaid crisis management, which the airlines and tour operators save on.

Threatening summer chaos at airports – airlines are defending themselves

The airlines defended themselves and blamed politics for the situation.

"The governments decided at very short notice to lift the travel restrictions," said Matthias von Randow, Managing Director of the German Aviation Association (BDL).

That is why there was no “reliable planning for staffing for the resumption of traffic”.

Warning strike at Easyjet: Airline cancels 20 flights

In Berlin-Schoenefeld, a warning strike at Easyjet on Friday (June 10) prevented many passengers from starting their vacation.

Flights to Nice, Mallorca, Amsterdam, Malaga, Copenhagen and London were cancelled.

According to Easyjet, the airline canceled around 20 of 130 flights that day.

Due to a lack of staff, Easyjet has already canceled part of the flight schedule.

The dpa news agency reports that twelve flights a day are affected from the capital's BER airport alone.
