At least 25 people have died in floods caused by torrential monsoon rains, Bangladesh police said today.
"The lightning that accompanied the rains has killed 12 people since last Friday, while four others died in landslides and at least nine died as a result of the floods," the police said in a statement, adding that these floods also isolated more than four million people. .
Local authorities are transforming schools into emergency shelters to house residents of inundated villages within hours after heavy flooding, and the army has been deployed to help nearly two million people stranded by flood waters after monsoon rains inundated large swathes of land for the second time in two weeks.
