First the heat - then the lightning?

According to a weather expert, Germany must prepare for severe weather that could follow the hot temperatures.

Munich – The first heat wave of the summer has Germany firmly in its grip.

But for how long, and what comes after that?

According to meteorologist Björn Alexander from

Wetter.de

, some parts of the country have to be prepared for thunderstorms.

Alexander explains that after the hot weekend, the temperatures are going down slightly at first.

"We'll definitely leave the peak of the heat behind us." However, the summer is not over so quickly.

After the heat, strong storms await us, according to the expert: "Partly heavy showers and thunderstorms up to full-blown storms are always conceivable with such air masses," he says - even if the weather computers are currently not necessarily showing their intensity .

"But they can't be ruled out.

Mainly because the heat will again be pushed aside by cooler Atlantic air on Wednesday and Thursday.

At the latest on Thursday it will cool down noticeably - according to the current status - all the way down to the south."

German weather service predicts severe weather: "Hail and heavy gusts of wind"

The German weather service also predicts severe weather.

The website states that individual thunderstorms fell over the south-west of Germany, and with a “lower probability also over the western mountains”, and that “storms caused by heavy rain” “cannot be ruled out”.

There will also be thunderstorms on Wednesday “south of an Eifel-Lausitz line” and “above all over the mountains with the risk of thunderstorms due to heavy rain, in the south also due to larger hail and (heavy) gusts of wind.”

How cool does it get after the heat and where?

Alexander explains: “The majority of the models still see between 20 degrees in the north and 30 degrees on the Upper Rhine for Wednesday.

On Thursday it will therefore be a maximum of 17 to 26 degrees.

In addition to sunny phases, there are also showers and thunderstorms in some areas.”

Weather in Germany: It stays warm in the south and east

All in all, we can expect “the summer of the Central European kind, which could probably stay with us towards the end of the month.

Here, the heat advantages lie in the south and east, while it should remain fresher and generally changeable towards the west and north.”

In the south, on the other hand, it will initially remain warmer, says Alexander: "South of the Main line it will continue to be very warm to hot with 26 to 32 degrees on Monday, before local downpours of thunderstorms will cool things down a bit.

Otherwise, at temperatures of 17 to around 25 degrees, airing is the order of the day.” The warmth will spread north again on Tuesday, the calendar beginning of summer, according to the meteorologist.

"Up to the north again with highs of 24 to 33 degrees.

Only the coasts are cooler in the sea wind.”
