The G7 summit at Schloss Elmau starts at the end of June.

Parking bans, tunnel closures and traffic jams due to traffic closures are to be expected in Munich.

A demo is taking place downtown.

Munich - This will be the summit - in several respects!

This coming weekend (June 26-28), some of the world's most important politicians will meet for the G7 deliberations at Schloss Elmau near Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Heads of state such as US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron are taking part, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also wants to be there.

G7 summit 2022: No stopping zones in Munich apply from Thursday (June 23)

This has consequences for the citizens of Munich – above all, stress on the streets.

From Thursday there will be no parking and sometimes even closures on the Mittlerer Ring!

Because the priority is the security of politicians these days.

They will arrive at the airport in Erdinger Moos and will then be taken by helicopter to Schloss Elmau near Garmisch.

If everything goes as planned, they won't have to drive through the city.

However, it becomes problematic if the helicopters cannot fly (e.g. in bad weather) – then the politicians have to drive through the city in their cars.

So that in this case there is no possibility of stopping the convoys, the roads are to be cleared.

Free for the heads of state – which in turn means that traffic jams can be expected for everyone else.

Munich: These tunnels are temporarily completely blocked because of the G7

And these limitations are tough.

In the night from Thursday to Friday (8 p.m. to 6 a.m.), several Munich tunnel tubes will be closed.

Landshuter Allee Tunnel, Luise Kiesselbach Tunnel, Trappentreu Tunnel and Petuel Tunnel are then temporarily closed.

Because of the G7 summit in 2022: illegal parkers in Munich will be towed away

The police did not want to give the exact reason for this – but one thing is clear: it is about protecting politicians.

With the same goal, some areas will be declared no-parking zones from Thursday morning (June 23rd), 8 a.m., until the following Tuesday.

This applies, for example, under the Donnersbergerbrücke or in some places along the Mittlerer Ring, where there are no parking spaces.

No chance for possible assassins to park a car!

Anyone who parks here anyway will be towed away.

Large G7 demo planned in Munich - 20,000 participants expected

There will be a lot going on right in town.

Among other things, a demo with 20,000 participants is registered for next Saturday (June 25).

This should not only cause further road closures, but also a lot of bus and train operations.

The opening and closing rallies are planned here on the Theresienwiese.

The people of Oberschleißheim will feel it and, above all, hear it when the heads of state and government of the world's seven largest industrial countries meet at the G7 summit at Schloss Elmau at the end of June.

The G7 summit causes more noise in the district of Munich.

Will Volodymyr Zelenskyy attend the Elmau G7 summit?

He is currently probably the most respected politician in the world - and he wants to take part in the G7 summit in Elmau: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj.

He confirmed on Twitter that he had accepted Chancellor Olaf Scholz's invitation.

However, it was still unclear whether Selenskyj wanted to travel to Bavaria personally (which would be surprising, but what was discussed in police circles) or whether he could be connected via video transmission.

Since the beginning of the war, the statesman had always opted for the video version, and he had already emphasized in March: "I'm staying in Kyiv!

Shortly before the G7 summit, there was a large-scale operation in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen region: a suspicious liquid was found during a border check on Friday.

Now the federal police gave the all-clear.

In the course of the G7 summit in Elmau, entry has been monitored since Tuesday.

For the federal police, it is the largest operation in years.

At its peak, around 7,000 officers are deployed.

It does not stop with monitoring the border crossings between Lindau in the west and Passau in the east.

There are also controls in rail traffic and at Munich Airport.
