Wolfgang Fellner, one of the most powerful media makers in Austria and probably the most controversial journalist in the country, founded the daily newspaper "Österreich" in 2006.
His goal: He wants to oust the tabloid with the widest reach, the Kronen Zeitung.
To do this, he resorts to increasingly questionable means in his reporting, but his plan doesn't work out.
The Fellner Empire
In our multi-part series of "Inside Austria" about the Fellner empire, we reconstruct the career of the controversial media producer Wolfgang Fellner.
In this episode we show how he is trying to become number one on the newspaper market with the daily newspaper »Österreich«.
How his reporting has become more and more shrill over the years and how his steep career has had its first breaks.
To this end, we again speak to long-time companions, former colleagues and industry insiders.
In the weekly podcast “Inside Austria”, SPIEGEL and STANDARD look together at the big and small scandals in Austria.
Together with journalists from both editorial offices, we reconstruct cases and events that move the country.
