Chaos reigned in the cockpit of the flight from Crete to Edinburgh.

The pilot was in poor health and sent an alarm code.

Edinburgh - A squawk or alert code '770' is never a good sign for air traffic controllers.

Pilots or crew members of aircraft only send this code in extreme emergencies - in other words, when it is a matter of life and death.

However, there can be a variety of reasons for this: engine failures, pressure problems, other technical problems or medical emergencies on board the aircraft.

On board the EasyJet machine, the latter was the reason for sending the alarm signal.

To make matters worse, the medical emergency was apparently the most important person on board: the pilot.

EasyJet flight to Edinburgh: Departure already delayed

As the Scottish news

website DailyRecord

reports, the departure at Heraklion airport had already been postponed several times and was therefore delayed.

Apparently, the pilot and crew had been there for a good 13 hours.

This enormous load then probably hit the pilot during the flight.

A passenger told the

DailyRecord

: "The captain went to the toilet and then didn't come out." As a result, the co-pilot unscheduled the plane to land in Edinburgh.

According to the passenger's report, after landing, the co-pilot announced over the PA system that "the emergency call had been made because the captain was ill."

When the plane was back on solid ground under the rollers, the pilot was taken care of by paramedics as a precaution.

EasyJet confirms incident but does not provide further details

The airline confirmed the incident to the Scottish newspaper.

According to EasyJet, "easyJet can confirm that flight EZY6938 from Heraklion to Edinburgh requested an early landing because the captain felt unwell on approach to Edinburgh." Fortunately, the co-pilot was there to stand in for his colleague and landed the plane safely in Edinburgh.

Further details about the incident are not yet known.

Not only in Scotland there was hustle and bustle at the airport.

In Switzerland, the entire flight area was temporarily closed.
