Members of the production team for

were arrested Thursday night on Capitol Hill while filming a comedy segment, authorities said Friday.

The people arrested, who identified themselves as affiliated with the CBS network show, were unauthorized at the Congressional Office Building and were charged with trespassing, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press.

Another person familiar with the matter provided the agency with a list of people who had been detained by the Capitol Police (USCP).

The two people who spoke to the AP could not discuss the details of the investigation publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Thursday night's incident followed the third public hearing of the House panel investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on Capitol Hill.

Police said they received a call about a disturbance at the Longworth Chamber office building around 8:30 p.m.

"Responding officers observed seven individuals, unescorted and without congressional identification

, in a sixth-floor hallway," the agency said in a statement.

"The building was closed to visitors, and it was determined that these individuals were part of a group that the USCP had directed to leave the building earlier in the day," he added.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS said the production team was at the Capitol on Wednesday and Thursday to film a comedy segment featuring Triumph.

“Their interviews on Capitol Hill were authorized and pre-arranged through the congressional aides of the interviewed members,” the network stated.

"After leaving the members' offices for their last interview of the day,

the production crew stayed behind to film

and other final comedy elements in the hallways when they were stopped by Capitol Police."

The USCP says in the statement that the case remains "an active criminal investigation, and may lead to additional criminal charges."

Capitol Police, deviating from normal practice, refused to release the names of those arrested.

The incident was used by right-wing media outlets to attack the bipartisan investigation, CNN reported.

On Fox News, the channel's prime-time anchors used the event to link Democrats to the security breach.

Most of the attacks focused on Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff, a member of the January 6 caucus and chairman of the House Intelligence panel.

The California lawmaker participated in an interview with Colbert's team on Thursday morning, many hours before the team was arrested.
