"Fans of frogs, liverwurst and spaghetti": Russia's ex-president Dmitry Medvedev mocks Scholz, Macron and Draghi in the Ukraine war.

Moscow – Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has criticized the joint trip to Ukraine by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.

The trip to Kyiv was completely pointless, comments Vladimir Putin's close confidant, using a sometimes bizarre choice of words.

"European fans of frogs, liverwurst and spaghetti like to visit Kyiv," wrote Medvedev on Thursday (June 16, 2022) on the short message service Twitter - alluding to foods that are traditionally consumed in France, Germany and Italy.

However, the trip has “zero benefit” for Ukraine.

Ukraine war: Putin confidant scoffs at Scholz, Macron and Draghi

Scholz, Macron and Draghi traveled to Ukraine by train on Thursday night.

The Federal Chancellor spoke out in favor of EU candidate status for Ukraine.

"My colleagues and I came to Kyiv today with a clear message: Ukraine belongs to the European family," said the German head of government in the midst of the Ukraine conflict.

Medvedev made fun of both the train journey and the promises.

Old-fashioned, European politicians would have to travel by train.

"Like 100 years ago," scoffed the Putin friend.

A possible EU accession and the delivery of "old howitzers" are only empty promises.

"All of that is good.

But that will not bring Ukraine any closer to peace.

The clock is ticking,” the ex-president wrote on Twitter.

Medvedev used to be seen by the West as a beacon of hope and a liberal reformer, but he has since become more and more radical and is acting as a propaganda mouthpiece for Vladimir Putin.

Before his controversial Twitter post, he had already questioned the existence of Ukraine as such.

"Who said that in two years Ukraine will even exist on the world map?" wrote Medvedev on Wednesday (June 15, 2022) in the Messenger service Telegram.

Military expert Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann (FDP) sees Medvedev's current statements as evidence that Vladimir Putin's environment has been brutalized.
