Second round of the legislative elections: LR has a card to play

2022-06-18T19:22:18.921Z

The Republicans can hope to save a little more than sixty deputies this Sunday. And the right-wing party does not despair of weighing

According to a number of them, the LR deputies had landed in the National Assembly the day after the 2017 legislative elections with the feeling of being “survivors”.

Survivors of the "Macronist wave", which had reduced them from almost 200 to some 110 elected officials.

What to say then, of those who will survive 2022, defeated by their tinsel of first opponents, while their group could still be divided by two?

According to our count, there are a good sixty Republican candidates who can hope to win this Sunday, June 19, plus a large handful whose victory seems uncertain, but not impossible.

Note that beyond resisting, the right should also conquer five to seven new constituencies.

Not counting their various right-wing and UDI allies, 73 of them qualified for the second round.

A disappearance in several historic lands of the right

An important lesson can already be drawn: it is the disappearance of LRs from a large number of territories where they were historically very strong.

They should thus mark a strong decline in Île-de-France, erasing Essonne, Val-d'Oise and especially Yvelines, department of right-wing innkeepers like Gérard Larcher or Valérie Pécresse.

And should barely be present in Pays de la Loire and Occitanie (one elected in each).

On the right, we want to believe that thanks to a still strong local presence, it will be possible for them to be reborn once the Macron era is over.

Consult the results of the legislative elections, constituency by constituency.

Follow the results in particular in Paris, Marseille or Lyon.

As well as the results in the districts of Hauts-de-Seine, Val-de-Marne, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-d'Oise, Essonne, Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines and in Oise.

The specter of the relative majority in the Assembly which awaits the power in place can sound both as a threat and an opportunity for the Republicans.

A threat, because if only a few seats were missing for the Walkers, or the philippists of Horizons, the latter risk rushing into a poaching race within the LR group.

An opportunity, because if they hold, the right could weigh on the five-year term, while Emmanuel Macron will need them to pass important reforms.

Life insurance that would allow the historical right not to demonetize too much.

And to continue to dream that the happy days will return.
