Sponsors wanted: interest group calls for donations for the Nikolaus chapel in Geretsried

Geretsried – 300 years ago, the St. Nikolausa chapel, which is located on the B 11 in Geretsried, was consecrated for the first time.

The oldest building in the still young city shows the years.

Above all, the interest group for the preservation of the Nikolauskapelle (IG) is therefore committed to extensive renovation and collects donations.

Exactly 1,077 sponsors are now being sought: because that is exactly how many shingles have to be replaced on the roof of the church.

"The Nikolaus Chapel, consecrated on September 18, 1722, is the original church of all churches in Geretsried and also the oldest building in our still young town," says Roland Rundet from the interest group, who is also a member of the commemorative committee for the 300th anniversary of the consecration of the St. Nicholas Chapel is.

The listed chapel now belongs to the parish of Maria Hilf in Geretsried.

After repairs in 1972 and 1990, further renovation work with a volume of more than 460,000 euros is pending.

The IG has launched a call for this.

"Everyone can contribute to ensuring that this unique cultural asset is preserved for future generations," explains Runde.

Shingle sponsorship and donations

Anyone who wants to can contribute to the renovation costs through a shingle sponsorship.

For this purpose, donations are accepted on the account of the interest group Nikolauskapelle at the Sparkasse Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen with the IBAN DE05 7005 4306 0000 073049.

The cedar shingle roof is now leaking.

It is therefore to be re-covered with hand-split larch shingles with regard to monument protection.

In addition, as reported, the church is infested with a gnat beetle (anobia).

According to though, the shingles have 53 rows.

That's 1,077 roof shingles.

"It remains to be seen whether we can find that many sponsors," says Rundet cautiously.

As he further explains, the amount of the donations is staggered.

A shingle sponsorship in the gable area can be purchased for 300 euros, a sponsorship in the bottom row would be 30 euros.

The sponsors of a roof shingle sponsorship are listed on the Nikolaus Chapel website of the Geretsried town church (www.stadtkirche-geretsried.de/nk), "or they can remain anonymous if you wish," explains the IG spokesman.
