2022-06-19T15:53:24.249Z

In recent weeks, Bitton has boycotted the votes in the plenum in protest of the reform, and so far Michaeli has refused to meet with him • The Histadrut: "Michaeli raised his head from the ticking"

In an effort to resolve the controversy surrounding the public transportation reform:

Labor Party Chairman, Transportation Minister Merav Michaeli, met today (Sunday) with the Chairman of the Economics Committee, MK Michael Bitton of the Blue and White Party.

It will be recalled that in recent weeks, Bitton has been boycotting the votes in the plenum in protest of the reform and demanding that it be changed for the better with underprivileged populations, while Michaeli refused to meet and discuss the reform with him until this meeting.

Bitton's claims against Michaeli are that the Ministry of Transportation did not count the Knesset and the Economics Committee he heads, and that they made an expensive reform that harms the weaker sections.

As part of the reform of Michaeli and Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman, people aged 75 and over will travel for free on public transportation.

Discounts will also be given to young people.

It was also decided that senior citizens over the age of 62 will be able to purchase a monthly ticket for NIS 112.5, and travel to anywhere in the country except Eilat.

In addition, a free national monthly ticket will cost NIS 225, and a regional ticket for a radius of 40 kilometers will cost NIS 99.

In addition, the discount for people with disabilities will be extended so that they will receive a 50% discount instead of 33%.

Existing discounts for students, soldiers, police officers and national service servants will remain the same.

Following a meeting between the two, from the Histadrut, which is leading the struggle of drivers, it was reported: "Michaeli raised his head for a moment from the ticking.

We call on Bitton to take advantage of this golden opportunity, and not to give up the conditions of drivers on public transport.

The collapse and abandonment of public transport must be resolved immediately. '
