President Yitzhak Herzog spoke today (Sunday) with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

This is against the background of the intentions published to carry out a terrorist attack on Israelis staying in Istanbul.

In the conversation, Herzog acknowledged the efforts to thwart a terrorist act on Turkish soil, and stressed that the threat has not yet been removed and the joint effort to thwart terrorism must be continued.

In addition, the two emphasized the great contribution of cooperation to the trust built between governments and peoples, and agreed to continue to work for peace and stability in the space through open and continuous dialogue.

Last Friday, senior Israeli officials estimated that Iran would try to carry out an attack in Istanbul over the weekend.

Following this, the security system again and again warned the Israelis staying there in the city to get out of it.

"Those who are unable to do so should reduce activity to the minimum possible, lock themselves in rooms, humble Israeli symbols, and show special suspicion towards such and such proposals," they said.

The sources noted that the Iranian terrorist cells have been ordered to kill Israelis, and to that end they may go through hotels and not be satisfied with attempts to locate Israelis by their language.

Their intention is to search for them using Israeli passports, which were presented at the entrance to the hotels as part of the registration for the room key.

Also over the weekend was revealed the name of the head of the Revolutionary Guards intelligence organization, which is behind the security threat in Turkey - Hussein Tayeb.

Taib reportedly tried to carry out at all costs an attack on Israelis in Turkey and elsewhere in the world, in part out of a desire to prevent the deterioration of his status within the Iranian security establishment, which was undermined by his failure to prevent a series of anti-Iranian incidents inside Iran and his failure to act against Israelis.
