In the most beautiful sunshine, believers paraded through Gelting on Sunday in honor of their patron saint Benno.

The tradition had to rest for two years.

Gelting – After a two-year break due to the pandemic, the people of Gelting revived the Benno procession in honor of their local patron this year.

Actually, the festival for the saint always falls on June 16, but strictly speaking, the name day is not the origin of the Corpus Christi procession in Gelting, but the transfer of the holy of holies in 1860 from the Wolfratshausen church to St. Benedict in Gelting.

"I am the bread of life," said Jesus Christ.

"Bread and water are essential to life," confirmed Pastor Gerhard Beham.

"Eating and drinking keeps body and soul together." And yet it is not enough if the most important thing is missing: belief in God.

"Man feels full, but is dissatisfied," the priest continued.

"One is full, but not fulfilled." He referred to the poem "Profane Revelation" by Hans Magnus Enzensberger.

Here the poet compared the fridge to a snow-white tabernacle: “It is filled with drinks, food – you only have to open the door.

He gives comfort at night to those who are thirsty, he is a helper in need for all those suffering from hunger.”

Material things are becoming more and more important these days.

The competition is getting bigger, the social climate frostier.

"We should face the choice," Beham urged the faithful.

“Do we choose the fridge or the tabernacle?

What fills my heart?”

Believers pass through Gelting and pray at four altars

In principle, Christ Himself gave the answer: “Whoever comes to me will not go hungry.

Whoever believes in me will never thirst."

After the service, the faithful, associations, music band and official city representatives marched through the village behind the cross, flag and figure bearers as well as the heavenly bearers and the holy of holies to pause in prayer at four altars and listen to readings from the gospels.
