The polls show a technical tie between the two candidates, so everything indicates that the presidency will be decided by a few votes after the most tense campaign in memory in the country.

The National Registry of Civil Status and the National Electoral Council have indicated that there are more than 38 million Colombians qualified to vote at 112,897 tables located throughout the territory.

On Sunday, the polls will remain open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the Registrar's Office insists that they will guarantee transparency and accuracy.

"The same juries, the data transmission system, the double verification and the facility for the electoral witnesses of the campaigns throughout the national territory will be maintained," the registrar stressed.

How do you win the second round?

Article 190 of the Political Constitution establishes that the presidential candidate must get half plus one of the votes to win in the first round.

“The President of the Republic will be elected for a period of four years, by half plus one of the votes that, secretly and directly, are deposited by the citizens on the date and with the formalities determined by law.”

In this second round, the person who obtains the highest number of votes will be declared president.

The Constitution says that in the event of the death or permanent physical disability of one of the two candidates with the majority of votes, their party or political movement may register a new candidate for the second round.

“If he does not do so or if the absence is due to another cause, the person who obtained the third vote will replace him;

and so on successively and in descending order.

If the absence occurs less than two weeks before the second round, it will be postponed for fifteen days.

Prohibition schedule

The curfew in Colombia for the second presidential round begins on Saturday and ends on Monday.

The consumption of alcohol is prohibited throughout the national territory between Saturday, June 18, from 6:00 p.m. and Monday, June 20, until 12:00 p.m.
