Country in protest: Many sectors of the economy have launched sanctions - which may only intensify Israel today

2022-06-19T05:52:28.996Z

Procrastination around wage increases, stuck work agreements, and a growing sense that hard work is not being rewarded properly • Checks continue even longer - and what will happen in the end?

Teachers Against Finance - This Morning: Classes will begin at 10:00

As part of the struggle to raise the salaries of kindergarten teachers and teachers, the teachers' union will shut down the education system for the first two hours this morning, and classes will begin at 10:00.

The sanctions include kindergartens (3-6), elementary schools and middle schools, and it is expected that there will be a full-day shutdown in the near future.

Teachers claim that their salaries are so low that teaching staff tend to leave the education system, and there is no one to teach in the classrooms.

At the same time, due to the low salaries of beginning teachers, quality young people do not come to study in teacher training institutions.

The Ministry of Finance, which is supposed to approve the increase in the salaries of teaching staff, made the move conditional on several demands.

One of them is the synchronization of the teachers' vacation days with the parents, so that the big vacation does not begin in July, but in August, and lasts until the Tishrei holidays (which usually apply in September).

The teachers' union is not at all willing to discuss this.

The second requirement of the Treasury is to increase the salaries of beginning teachers and reduce the gap with veteran teachers.

The Ministry of Finance accuses the teachers' union of not being willing to significantly prioritize young teachers.

On the other hand, Yaffa Ben-David, secretary general of the Teachers' Union, which is leading the struggle, does not hide her desire for a respectable salary increase for veterans as well.

The Distress of the Blue Uniforms - "Load and Risk - Without Compensation"

Like the teachers, the police are demanding an increase in their salaries, and the chairman of the Internal Security Committee, MK Meirav Ben-Ari (Yash Atid), even recently threatened that "there will be no budget without raising police salaries" - but her words were not backed by the government.

The plight of the police officers was well described by the commander of the central unit of the Jerusalem district, Sergeant Avi Cohen, who said: "This is a very Sisyphean and difficult job.

The commanders go under the stretcher and help, but the salaries are not rewarded.

The salary does not reflect the workload, the difficulty, the hours and the risk. "

At the beginning of the year, Boaz Goldberg, head of the police's human resources department, was required to address the issue of manpower, saying: "In the last three years the police have not grown in resources, budgets or manpower.

The large mass of resigners is of young people who serve in the organization for up to five years, and due to the meager salary, the police have difficulty recruiting quality personnel in their place.

In contrast to the IDF, the salaries of staff officers are similar to the salaries of police officers employed in conflict areas, with a police officer serving on the Temple Mount, for example, earning about NIS 8,000 a month.

Standing at the station - the drivers "waiting for the minister to wake up"

Tomorrow, the bus drivers of the Histadrut will sit between 10:00 and 12:00, in protest of what they define as "the abandonment of Transport Minister Merav Michaeli," who they claim continues to refuse to raise their wages and take care of their safety and well-being.

As you may recall, the drivers also went on strike on Friday.

In a statement issued by the Histadrut together with the drivers, it was stated that the cities where the strike will take place are Jerusalem, Netanya, Ashdod, Petah Tikva, Rosh HaAyin, Yavne, Bnei Brak, Ben-Gurion Airport, Gan Yavne, Beer Sheva, Ariel, Samaria Regional Council and Beit sun.

"Unfortunately, the Minister did not have time for the drivers' pleas to meet with her and resolve their distress," the statement said.

"We went on several unlimited strikes, until the minister woke up and took care of the public who are on the road for 14 hours a day."

They added that there is a shortage of 5,000 drivers, and thousands of drivers work double jobs.

The doctors' struggle - fighting violence and for the sake of the interns

This is the second time in a month that the Medical Association has been on strike due to violence against medical staff, and the Medical Association notes that if such cases continue, more protest measures are expected.

Further tension is expected towards the end of the month in the field of interns, as part of their struggle to shorten the shifts, which currently stand at 26 hours.

This, after the state requested an extension until the end of June in order to make amendments and adjustments to the permit that limits their shifts to 16 hours. Which is expected to decline.

The battle for the house (rented) - "The rent is disproportionate"

The jump in rent rates is now translating into protest.

On the Facebook page of the event "A huge demonstration against housing prices" it was announced that a demonstration will be held on Saturday, July 2, 22 in Habima Square in Tel Aviv, and so far more than 20,000 people have joined the stand.

"We are tired of sitting on the fence and watching from the sidelines," the page read.

In the past we have proven many times that we are capable of making a difference, and that we have incredible power when we work together.

It is time to return power to the citizens. "The members of the group demand, among other things," an immediate change in the issue of housing prices, and in particular affordable housing for the underprivileged. "

Do not take off - the pilots are protesting, flights are canceled

El Al is facing a difficult crisis - a dispute between the company's pilots and management, leading to the cancellation of many flights.

The pilots are interested in representing themselves independently before the management and separately from the other sectors of the company, and according to them, the management does not allow this.

Quite a few flights were canceled.

The pilots also demand the return of certain working conditions, some of which changed during the Corona period and claim to have not yet returned to normal.

At the end of the week, it was decided at the end of a hearing in the Labor Court, that the management and the pilots should continue intensive negotiations in order to reach an agreement as soon as possible.

Due to the situation in the company, and due to the fact that the pilots are not willing to work beyond their permanent position, quite a few flights to a variety of destinations have been canceled.
