German authorities have evacuated 700 people due to a fire near the capital, Berlin, as an exceptional heat wave hits several regions in Europe.
A spokesman for the Potsdam-Mittlemark region was quoted by AFP as saying: 700 people were evacuated from three neighborhoods in the city of Treuenbrietzen, located in Brandenburg, surrounding the German capital today, explaining that strong winds contributed to the rapid spread of the fire, which made the work of the intervention forces difficult.
According to local media, the fire burned about 100 hectares in this area, where 8,000 people live.
For its part, the municipality asked all residents to leave their homes and resort to emergency housing in the municipality building.
It is noteworthy that this area previously witnessed a fire that devoured 400 hectares of forest in 2018.
