The Greek Coast Guard announced today that 108 illegal immigrants have been rescued off the Greek coast, while searches are still underway for the missing.
And Reuters news agency quoted officials as saying: The coast guard is continuing its search for four missing migrants off the island of Mykonos after rescuing 108 migrants, including 24 women and 21 children, who were on board a boat that sent a distress signal late last night.
The coast guard boat spotted the vessel 1.8 nautical miles southeast of Delos, a small island near Mykonos.
The Greek coast guard announced last month that it had thwarted an attempt to smuggle 600 illegal immigrants coming from Turkey through the Aegean Sea, describing this attempt as the largest this year.
Athens accuses the Turkish regime of not taking sufficient action against smugglers who send illegal migrants on rickety boats in violation of the 2016 agreement between Ankara and the European Union.
