(CNN Spanish) --

With the presidency of Iván Duque coming to an end and the presidential elections this Sunday, June 19, the question arises: how much does the president of Colombia earn?

As stipulated in Decree 472 of the Administrative Department of Public Function, the President of the Republic of Colombia received from January 1, 2022 "a basic allowance equal to that received by the members of the Congress of the Republic and double representation expenses they receive".

And while the document does not stipulate exactly what the president's salary is for 2022, a report from the Congress of the Republic of Colombia, in 2020 the salary of its members was 34,417,000 Colombian pesos (around

US$8,800 per month

).

That would be about $105,600 a year.

However, it is not broken down how much of that total comes from the basic allowance and how much comes from entertainment expenses.

CNN contacted the Colombian Presidency to confirm exactly the presidential salary, without confirmation yet.

For its part, the Administrative Department of the Civil Service does clearly stipulate the salary of the Vice President of the Republic.

As of January 1, 2022, he receives a monthly salary of $28,408,081 Colombian pesos (approximately US$7,300) and the monthly salary is divided as follows:

  • Basic allowance:

    7,783,819 Colombian pesos (about US$1,990)

  • Representation expenses:

    13,806,323 Colombian pesos (around US$3,500)

  • Management Premium:

    6,817,939 Colombian pesos (approximately US$1,700)

Per year, the Vice President of Colombia earns a total of 340,896,972 Colombian pesos per year, which is approximately US$87,200 per year.

It is worth noting that when Iván Duque positioned himself on August 7, 2018, the dollar was at 2,898 Colombian pesos.

Now one dollar is equivalent to about 3,930 Colombian pesos, an increase of 35%.
