The Jewish community in Belgium was a great success.

The Belgian parliament in Belgium voted Friday by a majority against the bill to ban kosher slaughter in the province.

88 of the 89 members of parliament took part in the dramatic vote.

42 voted against 38 voted in favor.

In doing so, the parliament in Brussels rejected the bill to ban kosher slaughter in the province and in fact the two districts of Wallonia and Flanders in which kosher slaughter was banned remained.

The "European Rabbinical Conference" welcomes the decision.

The president of the conference, Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, said that "the message is clear to the two houses of parliament in the provinces of Wallonia and Flanders that banned the slaughter and to the whole of Europe" - the members of parliament in Brussels conveyed a clear message about Jews and their future.

Rabbi Goldschmidt said that "Morning News tells us that European leaders will fight resolutely for Jewish communities to live and succeed in Europe, but they do not provide a means of protection for our way of life. Europe needs to reflect the kind of continent it wants to be, if values like religious freedom are integral "- The European leadership must recover and reflect in deeds the declarations" - "We will continue to tilt Nablus to the representatives of the Jewish community in Belgium in order to offer our support in any way we can."

The rabbi of Belgium and the representative of the conference in the EU institutions, Rabbi Avraham Gigi, said that "the vote in the Brussels parliament proves that our power in our unity and in fact the Jewish community can continue slaughter and training in Brussels. "Slaughter is a gross interference in Jewish life, both outrageous and disrespectful. And we expect assistance from the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

" Because: "The decisions of the Belgian parliaments on the subject of kosher slaughter are legal and do not contravene the Belgian constitution."

As you may recall, following the passage of the law against the slaughter in the two provinces of Belgium, the Jewish community, headed by Rabbi Avraham Gigi, petitioned the Constitutional Court in Belgium, arguing that this legislation is contrary to the Belgian and European constitutions.

The Constitutional Court in a precedent-setting move has transferred part of the petition regarding the European Constitution to the European Court of Human Rights in Luxembourg.

Following this ruling, the Belgian Constitutional Court also decided to align itself with the decision of the parliaments

:

Independently, they must slaughter the animal during the day, a fact that is contrary to Jewish law.

About four months ago, the Jewish community in Belgium petitioned the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

The petition was controversial between the community and Jewish organizations including the European Rabbinical Conference but the Jewish community in Belgium decided to file in hopes that this court would reject the laws against slaughter and training in the provinces of Wallonia and Flanders as it violates the EU constitution on religious and human rights on the continent.
