The Secretary of State for European Affairs Clément Beaune beat the Nupes candidate this Sunday and saves his place in the government.

A win on the wire.

In a duel which promised to be very tight against the candidate of Nupes, Clément Beaune won with 50.7% of the vote against 49.3% for Caroline Mecary.

In an unfavorable ballot after the first round of the legislative elections after having collected 35.8% of the votes, five points behind this committed lawyer, at 41.4%, the Minister Delegate in charge of Europe had little reserve of votes, the LR candidate having collected only 5% of the votes, in a constituency, the 7th of Paris (which covers the 4th arrondissement and part of the 11th and 12th centuries), historically on the left.

So, around 9 p.m., when first estimates were announced on TF 1 giving this close friend of Emmanuel Macron the winner, they were greeted by a few cries of relief in a bar in the 12th arrondissement.

But not yet cries of victory for the handful of activists gathered on the spot, where the candidate minister is expected later in the evening.

" Cheer !

launches an activist with a glass in hand ready to toast.

"It's not done at all," replies another who does not want to rejoice too quickly.

“We wait, we wait, we wait.

The scores are close anyway, ”tempers Brigitte.

Caution is in order.

Proof that winning was far from certain for Clément Beaune, engaged in his first electoral battle.

"Let's be realistic, humble, we won hard"

An hour later, the victory is confirmed and the place has filled up when Beaune arrives cheering.

He distributes kisses to the activists, a wide smile on his youthful face.

“Friends, I have good news, we won!

But Emmanuel Macron's former Sherpa reacted immediately to the national results.

“We are, we do not forget, in a difficult national context, with a strong abstention, with an assembly which will be obviously fragmented, divided.

Better also collectively, because it takes a lot of humility, to learn lessons for the method, the way we are moving forward.

It will be up to the President and the Prime Minister to do so in the coming days.

»

It's a big relief for the minister who played his morocco in this particularly difficult fight.

Because the rule for the members of the candidate government was clear: resignation in the event of defeat.

He will therefore be able to return to his ministry.

It is his alternate Clara Chassaniol who will sit on the benches of the National Assembly.

"Let's be realistic, humble, we won in the snatch," continues the minister, who is playing the card of humility.

We went for voice after voice.

“He assures that the messages have been heard, on ecology, public services.

“We have to listen.

Facing him, Brigitte applauds and finally gives way to joy.

A glass in hand, Dominique is "disappointed" with the national results but happy with those of the circo.

“There was a good carryover of votes from the right and small green candidates”.

"We had a reserve of anti-Mélenchon votes and above all we convinced, we were on the ground until the last moment", abounds Joël.
