The long-delayed visit of Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz and Mario Draghi to Kyiv was meant to symbolize the unity of the European Union in its support for Ukraine in the face of the Russian invasion.
The announcement of an "immediate candidate" status for Union membership for kyiv and of military aid provided for as long as necessary to counter Russian aggression is not, however, enough to mask the growing differences within democracies concerning the objectives of the conflict such as the management of the planetary crisis of which it was the detonator.
