BMW rolls into the Main: Car is driven off and then goes under

The emergency call reached the integrated control center (ILS) of the fire brigade and rescue service at around 9.30 a.m., according to the press release from the police headquarters in Lower Franconia.

A BMW was reported to have rolled into the Main at the Main car park in Karlstadt.

Emergency services from the fire brigade, the police, a diving squadron, the water rescue service, the rescue service and a rescue helicopter immediately went to the scene of the accident.

Arrived on site, the helpers found that the car with the 83-year-old driver on board had already been driven off in the direction of Gmünden.

However, after about 150 meters it got stuck on a stone in the "duck bay".

Even before emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident, a couple noticed the incident.

The passers-by (52 and 43 years old) from Karlstadt immediately rushed to help the trapped pensioner.

They managed to free him.

The woman opened the driver's door and the man was able to pull the driver out of the car.

All three people remained unharmed due to the rapid intervention, the press release continues.

After they brought the 83-year-old ashore, the car sank completely in the Main.

BMW can be pulled out of the Main – the cause of the accident is still being determined

Now the great hour of the alarmed diving squadron rang.

They were able to discover and secure the BMW in the Main.

The car was then pulled out of the Main again with a winch.

During the salvage period, shipping had to be suspended for a short time.

Operating materials did not seep into the Main during the salvage and the accident.

However, to be on the safe side, an oil barrier was set up on the river.

The Karlstadt police are now investigating the exact background to the accident.
