Fast charging stations for electric cars are still a rarity in the district.

In Peiting, too, the electricity has so far flowed rather leisurely into the battery at the available public charging facilities.

But now, together with LEW, the community is stepping up the pace.

Peiting

– Anyone who wants to know where the nearest public charging station is as a driver of an electric car just needs to open the Bavaria charging atlas online.

At first glance, the situation in the Weilheim-Schongau district doesn't look all that bad.

From Schongau via Weilheim to Penzberg, numerous green symbols will pop up on the map, each of which represents a charging station.

However, it gets sobering when you want to know where you can charge your car's battery in the shortest possible time.

If you restrict the search to charging stations that can deliver at least 100 kW, the map quickly becomes very empty.

Appropriate charging stations only appear in Schongau-West, Penzberg and on the B472 near Sindelsdorf.

So there is enough room for improvement.

The first inquiries come in quickly

That's what Peiting's mayor, Peter Ostenrieder, thought last year.

At that time, the market was the first municipality in the district to use an online tool to name three possible locations for a fast charging station as part of the so-called fast charging law at the responsible national infrastructure control center.

The federal government is providing two billion euros for the construction and operation of 1,000 so-called “fast charging hubs” by 2023.

Shortly thereafter, the municipality received the first inquiries from interested providers.

Among them were the Lechwerke, which recently set up two charging stations in front of the Peiting town hall (we reported).

Representatives of the company had a look at the locations on site, reports Ostenrieder - with a pleasing result from the point of view of the municipality.

The head of the town hall has now found out that LEW wants to set up a fast charging station in the parking lot of the former girls' school on Bachstraße as early as autumn.

Location meets some requirements

LEW press spokesman Ingo Butters confirms the plans at the request of the Schongauer Nachrichten and explains why the choice fell on the location in the center of town.

“We use various criteria to evaluate the location of a charging station.

For example, the connection to the transport infrastructure, the size and location of a municipality and the frequency at the specific location with regard to use,” says Butters.

Another factor is the presence of gastronomic establishments in the area.

In this way, short charging breaks can be easily bridged.

"The location in the center of Peiting meets many of these factors, which is why we decided to set up a fast charging station here."

According to the spokesman, this will have three charging points: two DC fast charging points with a charging capacity of up to 150 kW and one AC charging point with a connected load of 22 kW.

The electricity comes entirely from renewable energies, emphasizes Butters.

There is no cost to the community

The construction of the plant should already be completed in the fourth quarter.

"Of course it's a great thing for Peiting," says Ostenrieder happily, especially since the municipality only provides the space it needs and there are no other costs for it.

Meanwhile, the mayor thinks there is a good chance that something will happen in the near future in terms of fast charging stations on Zeißlerweg.

The municipality had also reported this location with a view to the hardware store under construction.

"Another advantage here would be that you would be relatively close to the Peiting-Süd exit and thus to the B 23 and the B 472," says Ostenrieder.

If the charging option were to come there, “we would be really well positioned in Peiting.”

Whether the LEW as an operator comes into question here too?

The spokesman is still keeping a low profile: "As of today, we can't say anything about further specific plans in Peiting.

First of all, we will see how the use of the now planned fast charging station in the town center will develop.”
