On Reddit, a person wants to know why Bavaria is hated.

Some explain their reasons to him, others appease - and Austria is also drawn into the discussion.

Munich – There are many prejudices about Bavaria: They drink a lot of beer, eat a lot of meat and they are unfriendly.

They are cozy and connected to their homeland, are a few of the other clichés.

Some would probably say: either you love Bavaria or you hate it.

A user on Reddit apparently feels the same way.

On "Ask Reddit" he asked a question with the following caption: "Why does everyone hate Bayern?"

"Honestly, why this hatred of everything Bavarian and why is the entire culture of Bavaria reduced to alcohol instead of looking at the whole picture?" he asks himself.

An addendum by the person reveals that he himself is not from Bavaria, but has good friends there and cannot explain "why so many people don't like Bavaria." He himself is moving to the Free State in a few months.

The questioner received 604 comments - as of June 17, 7 a.m. - within two days.

But answers to his actual question seem to be the fewest at first.

"It's good manners to make jokes about the neighboring village"

“Take a map of Germany.

Draw a circle of any size (a few states, counties, cities, towns, streets,...) I guarantee there are two little groups in the circle joking at each other, even if from outside the circle looks like a unit,” replies someone, whereupon another person agrees: "It's good manners to make jokes about the neighboring village."

“Local patriotism exists at all levels.

Village against village, county against county, etc.,” explains another.

According to many users, jokes about Bavaria are nothing against Bavaria per se.

Reddit user irritated by Bayern "hate" - users comment on completely different clichés

"Is this aversion only to Bayern?

The image of the goofy North German is widespread, the Saxon with his funny dialect is not taken seriously and the people from the Rhine only live for the carnival anyway and then only drink funny beer ... I would say it doesn't matter," summarizes one person together.

"I would also like to add the Saarland incest cliché and the 'do people live there?' Brandenburg," adds another Reddit user.

“Oh look at the idiots”: Reddit user expresses anger at Bayern hatred

But one person obviously understands what the questioner meant: "At least on Reddit it often seems that way.. as often as Bavaria is beaten up and how stereotyped it is treated, you don't see it in other regions.

It's only possible for Saxony, but only for topics that affect Saxony, Bavaria is always 'oh look at those idiots'”.

Bayern: "Before Reddit, I didn't know the rest of us 'hated' us so much"

Other people explain their dislike of the Free State with the politicians.

"I'll just say one word: Minister of Transport," meaning Andreas Scheuer.

The alleged arrogance of the Bavarian politicians is also often mentioned.

“Although the arrogance does not only extend to the politicians, but to a large part of the population.

The prosperity that Bavaria enjoys is above all a gift from the Republic.

It says a lot about Bayern that they want to make people forget that," criticized someone.

"Before Reddit, I didn't know that the rest 'hates' us so much," commented a Bavarian under the discussion.

There are also positive voices: "I like Bavaria, we're not in Austria anymore, but we're not in Germany yet either," someone jokes and promptly receives an answer: "That's why the Bavarians are something in between people and Austrians. The discussion continues to escalate: "You can feel the influences of civilization a little more than in Austria."

"Mutual teasing due to exaggerated prejudices"

"But in my experience, it's just that: teasing each other based on exaggerated prejudices, which of course have their true core somewhere, but have nothing to do with real hatred," concludes one person.

"That's it.

No one really HATES people from [insert any state], they just annoy each other.

I live in Hesse on the border with Bavaria and of course Bavaria has to be badmouthed," one person replies.
