After a quick investigation by Shalem station investigators in the Jerusalem district, today (Sunday) the Israel Police filed an indictment with a request for detention until the end of the proceedings against a Silwan resident, in his 30s, after entering an archeological site in David From the place property.

The suspect was arrested and taken for questioning at the Shalem station, and today the indictment was filed against him.

In the last two weeks, several complaints have been received at the Shalem station in the Jerusalem district about trespassing on an archeological excavation site in the City of David and stealing various tools.

After a thorough investigation by Shalem station investigators, the suspect was arrested, who committed the thefts by joining groups of hikers, and was even recorded on the place’s security cameras with various tools in his possession, such as a welder and a washing machine.

As stated, today after the end of the police investigation, an indictment was filed against him in court with a request for detention until the end of the proceedings by the Jerusalem District Police Prosecution Unit.

The investigation and intelligence officer at the Shalem station in the Jerusalem district, Corporal Nadav Rapaport, said: "I am glad that we were able to get our hands on the thief after strenuous investigative activity.

We were able to establish evidence against him in several incidents of trespassing and theft of property from an archeological site in the City of David.

An indictment was filed against the defendant with a request for detention until the end of the proceedings, as part of the uncompromising fight in everything related to property offenses, and in accordance with the policy of the Jerusalem District Commander, Superintendent Doron Turgeman.

"Shalem Station in the Jerusalem District Police is constantly working resolutely against property offenses of any kind and its perpetrators. We do not skimp on using all the means at our disposal to locate those involved, gather evidence against them and prosecute them, as we did in this case."
