Metallica, Muse, - M -, Arctic Monkeys, Angèle... all will be performing at festivals this summer. After two complicated years, French and European festivals are offering rich programming.

Metallica at Hellfest, Muse at Eurockéennes, Midnight Oil at Vieilles Charrues, Rage Against the Machine at Rock en Seine: the big international headliners are returning to French festivals this summer after two seasons swept away by the health crisis.

Rock, metal, rap, pop, there's something for everyone.

rock and metal

This year the Hellfest and Rock en Seine festivals are back to make some noise.

The first, specializing in metal, delights its loyal audience with a double edition (June 17-19 and June 23-26) to make people forget the white seasons caused by the pandemic.

The Clisson site (Loire-Atlantique), with its giant statue of Lemmy (disappeared leader of Motörhead), welcomes the monster Metallica for its last weekend.

The first is not bad either, with, among others, Sepultura, Korn or Gojira.

Rock en Seine, in the Paris region, added an evening on Tuesday August 30 (festival initially spread from Thursday August 25 to Sunday August 28) to present Rage Against the Machine.

More generally, unkempt guitars are in the spotlight this year, with Arctic Monkeys, Idles, Fontaines DC, Squid, The Liminanas or Ausgang.

Apart from the essentials of the French summer - Clara Luciani, Dutronc father and son, Angèle - the Francofolies de La Rochelle (July 13-17) give Booba carte blanche.

The big stage will receive the same day as the "Duc de Boulogne" other sure values of hexagonal rap with SCH and Vald (the latter had also rubbed this winter on social networks with Booba).

Without forgetting a newcomer, Ziak, masked and gloved rapper.

Solidays, in the Paris region (June 24-26), also programmed consistent rap with OrelSan, Niska, Soso Maness, Gazo, Damso, Ninho, Oboy and PLK.

As a reminder, Solidays is not a festival of current music like the others, since it makes it possible to finance action plans of the association Solidarité Sida, a structure which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2022.

Muse, -M-, Megan Thee Stallion, Maneskin

Muse, always grandiloquent, performs at the closing of the Eurockéennes de Belfort (June 30-July 3).

The trio king of the stadiums will perhaps unveil some new titles from their future album

Will of the people

scheduled for August 26.

As for the Vieilles Charrues festival, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in Carhaix in Finistère (July 14-17), there are also literally beautiful people Mr. Matthieu Chedid, alias - M -, is eagerly awaited to defend his last album "Rêvalité" with a shock ally, Gail Ann Dorsey, who was notably David Bowie's bassist at the turn of the 1990s/2000s.

The Breton event will also vibrate with veterans of Midnight Oil and pop jewelers Metronomy.

On the poster for Lollapalooza in the Paris region (July 16-17), Megan Thee Stallion, rapper without filter, should do the show, just like, in a more old-fashioned rock register, Maneskin, group winner of Eurovision in 2021.

Europe not left out

Among the destinations close to France, there is also something attractive.

It is often necessary to equip yourself with rain boots but the thunderbolts often come from the scenes at Glastonbury in England (June 22-26).

Difficult to do better between references and revelations: Billie Eilish, Paul McCartney, Kendrick Lamar, Primal Scream, Suzanne Vega, Yard Act or Charli XCX make your mouth water in the 2022 vintage.

The Werchter, in Belgium (June 30-July 3), practices roughly the same balance between old survivors - Pearl Jam, Pixies, Beck, Red Hot Chili Peppers - and female voices to follow like Lous and the Yakuza, Girl in Red , Jehnny Beth or Jorja Smith.

The Paléo, in Switzerland (July 19-24), also mixes the international timeless - Kiss, Sting - and the new French locomotives, Stromae, DJ Snake or PNL.

For lovers of gigantism, the Sziget in Hungary (August 10-15) brings out the big guns with Dua Lipa, Justin Bieber, Kings of Leon, Woodkid or Princess Nokia.
