The family conflict in Ramat Gan, which ended in a shocking murder yesterday, left the families involved in shock.

According to the suspicion, a 60-year-old resident of the city was shot dead in the incident by his father-in-law, a 70-year-old Petah Tikva resident, with the background to the shooting apparently being a divorce dispute between their children over custody of the grandchildren.

The investigation shows that the suspect found the gun ten years ago.

He came to the scene to discuss the couple's distress and the divorce dispute.

Police said it was a serious and unusual incident.

"The suspect arrived at the deceased's home with a gun," a police spokesman stressed.

"He met the deceased in the stairwell and shot him several times - which led to his death. We attribute to him offenses of murder, threats and attempted murder because he intended to harm the deceased's daughter and wife as well."

The murder suspect's lawyer said he called police and said he had hurt a person.

"He's cooperating and he turned himself in to the cops who came to the scene," he said.

The lawyer representing the father in the divorce proceedings said today (Sunday) that the couple began the divorce process about a month and a half ago, during which the mother moved with her children to her parents' house in Ramat Gan.

According to her, only last Thursday was a mediation meeting between the parties, which progressed nicely.

She added that the father was broken from the case, and that the murdered man was "like a father" to him.

A man familiar with the details of the family dispute said yesterday that the murder suspect is suspected that his grandson is not interested in seeing him because of the bride's father, which is why he was shot.

A building tenant said that "this is a normative family. The grandfather who was shot is a good person, it was really surprising and I did not believe he was murdered."

In addition to the shooting in Ramat Gan, six people were killed over the weekend.

The cases occurred in Kiryat Ata, Ashkelon, Kafr Qara, Nahaf and Kiryat Tivon.

Following the large number of cases, the police announced last night that a large-scale crime operation will begin today in the Wadi Ara and Western Galilee sectors, with the participation of border fighters, YSM units and more.
