Ukraine is still in the middle of a war with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but last week there was a positive development for the government around President Volodymyr Zelenskyj: the EU Commission spoke out in favor of Ukraine's EU accession .

Russia will "demonstratively intensify its hostile actions this week, not only towards us, but also towards other European countries," said Zelenskyy.
There is still a long way to go before Ukraine could become part of the EU.
The next step would be to grant the country candidate status.
