District – Everyone knows the pictures: Barack Obama toasting the camera with a wheat beer;

Angela Merkel and other heads of state posing in front of a picturesque mountain backdrop.

Seven years later it's that time again: After 2015, the G7 summit is now taking place again at Schloss Elmau.

From June 26th to 28th, the heads of government of the seven most important industrial nations will meet to discuss solutions to global problems and conflicts.

And again it will be a summit meeting of superlatives: more than 3,000 journalists from all over the world will come, around 20,000 police officers are on duty, thousands of summit opponents from all over Europe are expected.

For the citizens of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the surrounding area, this means one thing above all: stress.

Roads are closed, manhole covers are welded and police checks are set up.

Hoteliers and landlords complain about many cancellations, local residents and business people fear riots at the anti-G7 demos.

In view of climate change, the corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine, there is certainly a lot for the heads of government to discuss.

But more and more citizens are asking themselves whether this huge effort is worth it at all - for a meeting that lasts just three days.

What does the summit mean for Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the surrounding area?

How much do citizens suffer from the stress of the summit?

Can the region also benefit from the G7 summit?

Is such a meeting of superlatives still up to date?

And what remains of the G7 summit - apart from beautiful pictures in front of an impressive mountain backdrop?

Citizens will discuss these and other questions live with Joachim Herrmann, Bavarian Minister of the Interior (CSU) and Katharina Schulze, parliamentary group leader of Bündnis90/Die Grünen in the state parliament, on Wednesday, June 22, in the Bayernhalle Garmisch.

Admission: 7.15 p.m., start of broadcast: 8.15 p.m. Those interested can reserve free tickets by sending an e-mail to nunredi@br.de or by calling 089/5900-25299.
