The Nazareth District Court today (Monday) sentenced the terrorist Nur Shinawi, who stabbed Shuva Malka Ben-Shoshan, then 18, to 23 years in prison, and seriously injured her.

Shinawi was also ordered to compensate her with NIS 250,000.

Shinawi, a 20-year-old Jenin resident at the time of the act, carried it out, according to the indictment, amid feelings of hatred towards Jews, especially religious ones.

The act was meant to be revenge for the deaths of two of his friends while trying to carry out a stabbing attack on soldiers at the Huwwara checkpoint in 2015. During the act he wounded Malka, who was waiting at a bus stop in Afula many times and cruelly, after noticing her religious appearance.

While attempting to escape, he was shot in the legs and arrested.

23 years in prison.

Malka, an 18-year-old ulpana student, was hospitalized at the Valley Hospital on fire in the intensive care unit after being seriously but stably injured in the attack, and said she felt the stabbing "is not something private, but of the whole people of Israel."

She said, "This is a reminder that we need to move forward, grow from it. I thank God for doing a miracle for me and I am alive."
