The foreign minister, determined to lead the party's candidacy in 2024, announces the creation of a committee led by Senator Malú Micher

The Secretary of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, has decided to throw himself fully into Morena's campaign to succeed Andrés Manuel López Obrador in 2024. The foreign minister announced this Sunday during an act in Guadalajara that he will form a team to "win the poll." internal.

It will be chaired by Guanajuato Senator Malú Micher, president of the Commission for Gender Equality, and will be made up of more than 300 positions from the movement.

“We are going to go and listen, to propose, to organize ourselves and maintain the advantages in all the polls,” Ebrard proclaimed, who recalled at the launch of his candidacy that the president himself had already pointed out to him five times.

“There was a lot of speculation: that if today's meeting is an uncovering, what is the objective.

Let me say something: the president has already uncovered me five times,

In the pools, known as the game of

corcholatas,

or plates, López Obrador has placed on several occasions the head of Mexican diplomacy, the head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, or the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto Lopez.

They are joined by the leader of the caucus in the Senate, Ricardo Monreal, annoyed in recent weeks by the anticipation with which the presidential relay race was opened.

With two years to go before the elections, most of the political debate focuses on the internal life of Morena and the succession, while the opposition alliance has not yet managed to recover from the 2018 defeat and, without leadership with the capacity to overshadow the ruling party, is still immersed in a desert crossing.

That is why this internal competition is also so relevant and that is why the main applicants are already taking positions.

“We are going to organize ourselves, we are going to walk, we are going to go through the entire Mexican Republic, all the States of the Mexican Republic to listen, to listen as we are listening today to the points, the proposals, and then to propose”, insisted Ebrard, who has called on his followers to be careful with the rules established by the National Electoral Institute (INE).

Between applause and shouts of "president, president" and accompanied by Santiago Nieto, until last November head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), the Secretary of Foreign Affairs has clarified that the pre-campaign has not even formally begun.

“What we are doing is participating in a survey within the movement that is the national coordination for the defense of the fourth transformation.

That is what we want, compañeras and compañeros, to win that survey, we are going to organize for that”, he specified.

The internal vote, as announced last Sunday by Mario Delgado, national leader of Morena, will be held in approximately a year, while in the coming months the formation will renew its local structure until a congress is held.

Ebrard, in fact, leads, along with Sheinbaum, most of the polls carried out so far, although Adán Augusto López, a position very close to López Obrador and former governor of his home state, Tabasco, is gradually adding preferences, especially hand in hand of the militancy.

The team that will accompany the chancellor in the race, in addition to Micher, will have other senators in the front line: José Narró, Lupita Covarrubias, José Ramón Enríquez, Joel Padilla.

In addition, there will be more than 25 federal deputies and some 300 local legislators, mayors and aldermen.

“We are going to ask Senator Malú Micher to organize a proposal for the topic of the survey and once you have it, tell us so that we can install a committee that represents us in the party, that represents us and that gives an opinion on how it should be done. of doing the exercise”, Ebrard has indicated.

This same Saturday, the president insisted that the time has come to think about the replacement even though he still has two years and three months left at the head of the Government.
