In the night from Sunday to Monday, rescue workers rescued an 82-year-old man from Altomünster dead from Lake Karlsfeld.

The pensioner has been missing since Sunday afternoon after failing to return from swimming.

Karlsfeld

– As Oliver Welter from the lifeguard reports, the 82-year-old was known as a good swimmer.

He regularly drove to Karlsfeld to swim there.

He also had to have crossed the lake on Sunday, as Welter explains in view of the man's location near the west bank and the location of his swimming gear parked on the east bank.

According to the police and Welter, the "most likely cause of the accident" is that the man suddenly went under for a medical reason and without being able to call for help.

In view of the "bustle" that prevailed on Sunday because of the midsummer weather in and around the lake, "nobody saw the man's plight," believes Welter.

The man's relatives initially made their own way from Altomünster to Karlsfeld to check on the 82-year-old there.

After they discovered his parked car in the Karlsfelder See parking lot, they informed the emergency services.

A week ago there were several swimming accidents

As a result of extensive search measures that were initiated immediately - the water rescue services from Dachau and Freising, the Karlsfeld fire brigade, the diving group from the Unterschleißheim fire brigade, the Dachau THW with its sonar device and the police with a helicopter equipped with a thermal imaging camera were involved - the missing person was found on Monday at 0.07 a.m. in the found in the lake and unfortunately only recovered dead.

The Fürstenfeldbruck criminal police took over the further investigations into this accident.

There had already been three swimming accidents at Karlsfelder See in the past week.

As reported, attentive passers-by were able to prevent worse things from happening in two cases by pulling the drowned out of the water in good time.

In a third case, the rescued person barely survived, but will probably remain permanently impaired because of the many minutes he was unconscious.

Lifeguard warns: "Extreme heat is enormous strain on the body"

Basically, the water rescue service warns that the “extreme temperatures of the last few days have put a considerable strain on the body” and bathers should therefore “if possible not go into the water alone or with a suitable buoyancy aid”.

In addition, according to the water rescue service, "countless, apparently forgotten items of clothing and bathing utensils have been found on the shore".

The problem: These "unowned items of clothing" could trigger a search for missing persons or, in the case of a real emergency - like on Sunday - make the search more difficult or hinder them.

According to the water rescue service, bathers should therefore “make sure when they leave that they take everything they brought home with them”!
