The federal government is setting the final course for a possible purchase of the Rostock site from the insolvent MV Werft.

According to information from the German Press Agency on Monday, the Ministry of Defense was making far-reaching plans for an offer to take over the shipyard on the Baltic Sea in order to ensure the repair of naval ships there on its own in the future.

Berlin - According to the plans, which have not yet been completed, the Federal Agency for Real Estate Tasks (BImA) could take over the infrastructure of the shipyard.

The purchase would mean that the shipyard would then operate under the umbrella of the so-called Naval Arsenal.

The form in which shipyard workers can switch to public service is the subject of consultations.

There are several potential buyers for the Rostock-Warnemünde shipyard location.

For the MV Werften with its once 3000 shipbuilders at three locations, bankruptcy was filed in January after a long stalemate.

The submarine builder Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) Kiel has already bought the shipyard in Wismar.

The shipyard site in Stralsund was taken over by the city in January in order to develop a maritime business park there.
