The disaster has been declared, the police are now starting to evacuate endangered districts.

.: According to Mayor Bernhard Knuth (independent), the forest fire near Beelitz (Potsdam-Mittelmark) is under control.

"There is a fire on 200 hectares, but fortunately the flames are not spreading any further at the moment," Knuth told the German Press Agency on Sunday evening.

Strong gusts of wind, which could fan the fire, must be expected into the night.

"Then we hope for the expected rain," said Knuth.

In the city, the residents of three streets were taken to safety as a precaution, said the mayor.
