Sunday brought high temperatures and great drought, which posed a very high risk of forest fires.
Around 4 p.m. smoke rose from the ridge of the Osterfeuerkopf near Eschenlohe.
The ILS Weilheim control center received an emergency call that a large area had caught fire there.
The Forest Fire Alert Plan has been activated.
The fire brigades from Eschenlohe, Ohlstadt, Murnau, Oberau and Partenkirchen moved in.
There was also a large contingent of mountain rescue services and the police.
Since the fire was in a very exposed location, the emergency services could only approach it to a limited extent via forest roads.
The Florian disciples walked with their heavy equipment through rough terrain to the source of the fire.
In the meantime everything was prepared for the helicopters on a meadow in the valley.
A provisional landing site was set up and external extinguishing tanks made ready for use.
First there were material flights, so important extinguishing material could be brought up the mountain.
Two state police helicopters arrived and began flying up the mountain with the fire-fighting water tanks that were attached to the bottom of the helicopter and throwing the water over the seat of the fire.
A "Puma", a federal police helicopter, also came to the site.
This can transport larger extinguishing water tanks.
According to initial information, an area of around 500 square meters was assumed to have caught fire.
The cause of the fire is still unclear at this time.
The fire brigade urgently asks that you behave properly in forests and on areas, especially with this drought.
A single spark can cause a catastrophic fire.
