After rainfall, the situation with the forest fire near Treuenbrietzen in Brandenburg has eased significantly.
The fires in the area were extinguished by Monday morning except for a few embers and the evacuations were lifted, said Jan Penkawa, spokesman for the local situation center.
620 people were able to return to their homes in the Frohnsdorf, Klausdorf and Tiefenbrunn districts.
Treuenbrietzen - Seven residents stayed in the emergency accommodation in the town hall, the others were accommodated privately.
"We would like to thank all citizens for their extremely cooperative and disciplined behavior despite the circumstances," the city wrote on its website.
"Please return to your homes just as carefully."
A forest fire in a pine forest near Treuenbrietzen in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district had spread strongly over the weekend with changing winds.
Hundreds of firefighters and Bundeswehr soldiers fought a dramatic fight against the flames.
Because heavy smoke developed, the three parts of the city were evacuated as a precaution.
Extinguishing the fire area is particularly difficult because ammunition and ordnance lie in the ground of a former explosive and training area.
