Legislative: France "ungovernable", "slap" ... the rout of the majority in the headlines

This Sunday, Emmanuel Macron lost his absolute majority in the National Assembly. A disappointment for the re-elected president whose French press

An “ungovernable” France?

In any case, this is the assessment made this Monday morning by Le Parisien-Aujourd'hui en France, photo of Emmanuel Macron with a closed face and a shifty gaze on the front page, after the loss, this Sunday, of the absolute majority by Ensemble, the presidential coalition in the second round of legislative elections.

Together won 245 seats, the Nupes 137 and the National Rally (RN) 89.

"The danger that awaits is that of immobility, which France had known with the Fourth Republic", advances Jean-Michel Salvator, editorial director of Parisian-Today in France.

An analysis shared by "Le Figaro" in which the head of state, on the front page, draws a gray mine.

"To the test of an ungovernable France" titles the daily which also points to a "half-hearted victory for Jean-Luc Mélenchon" and "a historic breakthrough for the RN".

The daily nevertheless recalls the real winner of the election: abstention, which reached 53.77%.

“The 577 new parliamentarians (…) will also have the mission of proving their usefulness to the French and restoring confidence in the institutions”, writes Le Figaro inside its pages, faced with this abstention.

" The slap "

The palm of the shock title goes to "Liberation".

Exit the usual pun on the front page, make way for a bloody statement: "LA GIFLE", written in white capital letters.

Emmanuel Macron's head, positioned at the bottom of the page, is cut below the nose, as if the President of the Republic was trying to hide.

Faced with the 245 seats won by Ensemble, far from the 289 necessary to obtain an absolute majority, "Libé" analyzes a "President who obtains only a relative majority", who "undergoes his biggest electoral snub” and which appears to be caught between a strengthened left and a National Rally at a historic level”.

The RN achieved a historic score this Sunday, sending 89 deputies to the Palais-Bourbon.

Unheard of for the far-right party which will be able to form a parliamentary group for the first time in its history, the RN having obtained more than the 15 necessary seats.

Same expression for "La Croix" which places Emmanuel Macron "in a vice" between the Nupes and the RN "and at the head of a country" split ".

On the front page, a voter from behind faces a wooden table on which are placed ballot papers and envelopes.

The different stacks are carefully distributed across the table, most certainly to illustrate the political fracture of a France where no clear majority emerges.

The regional daily press seems to be going in the same direction: "no majority for the President" displays "Ouest-France", "Macron will have to sail on sight" for "Provence", a "relative majority" and "absolute doubt" on the side of the “Voix du Nord” or even a “victory with the taste of defeat” for Emmanuel Macron, according to Sud Ouest.

The observation of a five-year term in the unknown seems to unite the French press.
