Legislative: these constituencies where the blank vote broke all records

If abstention is at the heart of the lessons of this election, the number of blank ballots has also exploded. In question, duels pol

This is a data passed largely under the radar during this second round of the legislative elections.

And yet!

The blank vote was multiplied by more than three between the first and the second round, rising nationally from 0.74% to 2.54%.

A phenomenon certainly cyclical, attributable for many to local duels in which the voters did not recognize themselves, but whose structural dimension should not be eclipsed.

Focus on the constituencies affected by this “white” wave.

  • 1st constituency of the Tarn

The great champion of the white vote, here she is.

The 1st constituency of the Tarn, including part of the cities of Albi and Castres, accumulates in the second round of the legislative elections 6.36% of white votes among those registered.

Thus, out of just over 85,000 registered voters, 5,411 decided to vote blank in a duel between the National Rally and the Nupes coalition.

If the presidential coalition Ensemble failed to qualify in the second round of this constituency (receiving 19.29%, in third position behind the RN and its 20.18%), its voters largely turned to the blank vote .

The outcome of the ballot made it possible to elect the candidate of Marine Le Pen's party, Frédéric Cabrolier.

  • 2nd district of the Marne

Opposing the Nupes and the National Rally, the 2nd constituency of the Marne was the subject of a blank vote which peaked at 6.31% of those registered.

Again, the candidate at the foot of the podium wore the label Together.

This situation ultimately benefited the far-right candidate Anne-Sophie Frigout, who won with 54.82% of the votes cast.

The constituency holds another record, that of the greatest evolution of blank ballots between the two rounds.

From 0.58% to 6.31% of registered voters, the blank vote exploded, being multiplied by more than ten.

  • 4th district of Sarthe

With 6.29% of the white vote, here is another Nupes / National Rally duel which did not convince the Macronist voters.

Nevertheless, in this 4th constituency of Sarthe, it is the left-wing candidate Elise Leboucher who emerges victorious in the second round, with a narrow lead of 88 votes (and a score of 50.15%).

  • 5th Northern Constituency

You would have guessed it, the constituency which accumulates the 4th highest rate of white votes concerns again a National Rally/Nupes duel.

Here, blank votes represent 5.96% of registered voters, this rate having increased significantly between the two rounds (with an increase of 660%, i.e. a rate multiplied by more than 7).

  • 2nd constituency of the Territory of Belfort

Finally, the 2nd constituency of the Territory of Belfort collects 5.88% of white votes, in a duel between again and again Nupes and National Rally.

Here, it is the candidate Nupes who comes out on top, with 51.37% of the votes cast, against 48.63% for the unsuccessful candidate Sophie Carnicer.
