The Nupes and the RN both claim the head of the Finance Committee, traditionally assigned to the largest opposition group.
Under the previous legislature, it was exercised by the Republicans, who held 101 deputies.
This time around, although Nupes has 131 seats, La France Insoumise only has around 85, less than the RN.
The standoff between the two groups is therefore considerable, because by controlling the accounts of the State, this commission can play the role of real counter-power.

But it is not the only parliamentary committee in the Assembly.
Since the constitutional reform of 2008, the Palais Bourbon can be composed of a maximum of eight permanent commissions.
They are thematic and aim to examine each bill or proposal of law which concerns them, and to allow the Assembly to exercise control over the action of the government.
Increased power since 2008
Their mission is to prepare the parliamentary debate, because the texts debated by the deputies are first worked on in the committees.
The eight standing committees are the Law Committee, the Finance Committee, the Cultural Affairs and Education Committee, the Economic Affairs Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, the Social Affairs Committee, the National Defense and Armed Forces Committee, the Sustainable Development and Regional Planning Committee. .
Each commission is made up of a chairman, a general rapporteur, as well as several vice-chairmen (who chair certain sessions) and secretaries (who monitor the voting process).

Beyond the standing committees, the National Assembly can also set up so-called special committees and commissions of inquiry.
The joint joint commissions (CMP), bringing together seven deputies and seven senators, are designed to find a compromise on a text and lead to a common version between the members of the two chambers of Parliament.
Special committees can also be set up to examine a specific bill or private member's bill, at the request of the government, the chairman of a standing committee, a chairman of a parliamentary group or by fifteen deputies.
Since 2008, the Constitution enshrines the reference of the texts of laws to a permanent commission as a basic rule, the use of a special commission being the exception, which further accentuates their importance in the drafting of laws.
The committees also draft reports and issue opinions.
On June 29, the day after the election of the President of the National Assembly and the constitution of the parliamentary groups, the positions within the various committees will be distributed, taking into account the balance of the groups within the hemicycle .
