Legislative 2022: the evolution of the Assembly since 1986

Observing the composition of the elected National Assembly gives a good indication of the upheavals that agitate French political life.

Since 1986, the year in which the Palais Bourbon stabilized at 577 members, legislative elections have often resulted in an alternation of the parliamentary majority.

Notable exception, the year 2007 when the right retains the majority under the impetus of Nicolas Sarkozy's victory in the presidential election.

Still, the constitution of this majority in 2002 owes a lot to the surprise elimination of Lionel Jospin at the end of the first round of the presidential election.
