In order not to block a car parking space, scooter drivers park their vehicles on the sidewalk.

Now the city administration no longer tolerates this.

The space on streets and paths is becoming increasingly scarce, the friction is therefore more.

This also applies to stationary traffic.

A tightening of pace by the city administration is now causing trouble.

This could also affect fast e-bikes.

Fürstenfeldbruck

– Bernd Knoll (name changed) has been leaving his car in the garage for 30 years and doing his shopping in downtown Fürstenfeldbruck on a scooter.

It is parked at one of the bike racks along the main street.

He bought the vehicle specifically for this purpose, in order to avoid the precarious parking situation in the city.

So far there have never been any problems.

But now the scooter driver received a fine issued by the city administration's regulatory office: Knoll should pay 55 euros because his vehicle was parked on the sidewalk.

A punishment according to the law, but the former officer is outraged.

Because if he were to park his light motorcycle according to the regulations, he would have to use regular public parking spaces and thus take up valuable space for the cars.

As in many other cities, parking motorized two-wheelers on sidewalks was tacitly tolerated in Bruck for a long time - provided that pedestrians, mothers with prams and wheelchair users are not obstructed.

Now the tolerance seems to be over.

The consequence: Light motorcyclists must, strictly speaking, use a public parking space on the main square "if there is a free one at all".

Knoll: "I think it's absolutely unfair for the regulatory office to leave a line that has been tolerated for years without notice and any warning."

As a city hall spokeswoman explains, parking lot violations by light motorcycles have been punished for some time.

The alternative for Knoll: "From now on, I'll stand alongside a parking space that is actually intended for cars and take a rubber band or tape with me to attach the parking disc or parking ticket."

The “bicycle-friendly mayor”, who “creates new bike parking spaces everywhere that nobody uses or needs”, should also provide parking space for mopeds for reasons of equality, says the scooter driver.

And the few parking spaces on Fürstenfeldbruck's main square should be kept free for people with walking disabilities to drive to see a doctor, for example.

"I'm already looking forward to the outcry of the motorists when every one of the scarce parking spaces is occupied by a moped," says Bernd Knoll.

He is convinced that peaceful tolerance when parking light motorcycles on the wide sidewalk would certainly be the lesser evil.

The new design could also affect e-bikes with insurance plates that drive faster than 25 kilometers per hour.

They should then no longer be parked on the sidewalks.

What also outrages Bernd Knoll: “Nobody cares about the electric rental scooters that are often carelessly thrown here and there, they go unpunished.”
